AgTech : By using new developments in irrigation we can save water and money

The idea for mobile drip irrigation was there 15 years ago. “Mobile drip irrigation technology is something that has been around for a while. It’s been perfected recently by some folks here in southwest Kansas, and it’s being marketed nationally,” Rude said.

The idea is that it combines pivot irrigation with drip irrigation. “We exceed 95 percent efficiency of the use of water with our dragon line on the field,” said Monty Teeter, owner of Teeter Irrigation Inc.

The benefit to using mobile drip irrigation is that the hoses spray the water directly into the soil rather than misting the water over the plants like traditional irrigation systems.

“Not only do we apply water with great efficiency, but we get it in the soil where it needs to be and we eliminate the evaporation,” Teeter said.

Teeter said that if we don’t maintain and save what water we have and use it efficiently here in the high plains, we’ll be all dry land.
