AgTech : West Bengal Agricultural department is to set up cold storage in kisan mandis

West Bengal agriculture marketing department is planning to set up cold storage in the premises of the all kisan mandis (Farmers’ market).

A senior official of the state agriculture department said that farmers will face difficulties if their agricultural products go unsold. So, the cold storages are very essential to store unsold vegetables.

“The state government has earlier decided to set up only godown but is now also planning to set up cold storage so that perishable vegetables could be stored for a long time,” said the official. The cold storages will be set up under Public Private Partnership (PPP) models, said the official. About 50 warehouses for seeds are also under construction. The state agriculture department is also going to open an office in Haldia for supervising the construction of the kisan mandis for east Midnapore district. Haldia Development Authority has already sanctioned a land for this purpose.
