Seminar on Modern Agriculture Technology in Mokokchung, Nagaland

Mokokchung: The Japukong Senso Senden organised a one-day seminar on modern agriculture technology on March 16 at Longchem Town in Mokokchung District. The Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland was sponsored this seminar.

The chief guest of the seminar was Dr. Benjongliba Aier, Parliamentary Secretary, CAWD & Taxes, he emphasised on the importance of agriculture in Nagaland in the absence of industrialization in the State.

He said that the bulk of the rural population depends on the agriculture. However, in spite of modern agriculture technology, the rural farmers are reluctant to adopt the new technology but still adopting the methods of cultivation which were practiced by our forefathers.

Dr. Aier stated, “The old method is not only unproductive but also an environmental hazard in the age when the nation is trying to double up the production per unit area. This can be done only by adopting agricultural mechanization, soil amendment, use of high quality hybrid seeds and planting materials, timely sowing, integrated insect-pest management, balanced nutrition, post-harvest management, etc.”

According to press release, Nungsangkaba, DAO/PD ATMA, Mokokchung delivered the exhortation. The resource persons were Meyasashi, DHO Mokokchung, Dr. Sashiyangba, DLRO Mokokchung and Imkongtemsu, Dy Director Mangkolemba. The main speaker at seminar was Aliba Imchen.
